How long should a patient wait on the transplant waiting list?
The time a patient might stay on the transplant waiting list varies from few days to few years depending on clinical conditions, availability of organ, and its compatibility. Unfortunately between 10 to 25 percent of the patients on the transplant waiting list die annually in Iran due to not receiving an organ.
Could the recipient's body reject the organ?
The statistics of successful transplants show a success rate of 80 percent in most cases. If the recipient does not take care of himself properly or in some rare cases automatically the body could reject the organ. However fortunately most cases could be treated medically.
What happens if the organ is rejected by the recipient's body?
Mostly if the rejection is diagnosed on time it can be treated. Accurate control of the patient after transplant, using the medication and performing needed labs could completely prevent organ rejection
